How to identify hardware problems with Dell Latitude laptops…

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected

1. Insert a battery from another (same model) laptop that you know is working.
2. Try with just the cable attached, remove the battery.
3. Try with a different power cable, this can be split into 2 parts so can be interchanged with the one that isn’t working to see if it a specific part of the cable

If there is absolutely no sign of life then try toggling the power switch. Check the power cable is securely plugged in at each end. Try swapping the power cable for one you know works…..

Usually this means your monitor is turned on, but your computer is not. If your computer is on, and you get this error, it means the cable from the computer….

Some computer monitors can be rotated, so there are video cards which support that rotation….

There are not many moving parts in a PC – so any noises are usually down to either a fan or the Hard Drive. The CD drive makes noises but won’t stop the PC from starting up….

First of all check for ANY signs of life – any lights or noises at all?
Check the power leads are secure at both ends…..

If the correct characters are not appearing when you type, it may be that the Windows regional settings are out – the classic example is the @ and “ keys are switched around on US keyboards…..

Ensure that both devices are plugged securely into the computer – for wireless devices check the wireless receiver is plugged in.
Try connecting them to different USB ports……
