Hosted Apps connection problems – Windows XP SP3 with RDP 7 client installed / KB969084

Please note Windows XP is no longer a supported operating system. If you are still using Windows XP you should upgrade or replace your computer ASAP.

If you have version 7 of the Remote Desktop Client installed on a Windows XP machine you may have problems connecting to the Scomis services from a school outside of SWGfL – ie Portsmouth, Oxford.

To check if this is the root cause of the problem:

  1. Click Start > Run
  2. Enter mstsc.exe – click enter
  3. Right Click on the title bar then choose about
    rdc7_1
  4. RDP Client 7 will show as
    rdc7_2

See the last line “Remote Desktop Protocol 7.0 Supported

  1. Enable CredSSP following the kb or using this Microsoft Fixit: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9758284
  2. Save this registry fragment  ScoCredSSPSettings.reg onto the computer, rename it to .reg
  3. Merge it into the system
    rdc7_6
  4. Restart the computer
  5. Try connecting again

If after trying the registry fix you get a different error message saying:

“connection terminated because an unexpected server authentication certificate was received from the remote computer”

Then you will need to remove RDP7

Interactive: C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB969084$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

Silent: C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB969084$\spuninst\spuninst.exe /z /q
