Key Stage 2019 – Explanation of P-Scales and Pre-Key Stage

Key Stage 2019 – Explanation of P-Scales and Pre-Key Stage

  • “Pre-Key Stage” and “P- Scales” are different.
  • “P-scale” is lower than “Pre-Key Stage”

The result “BLW” (below the standard of the pre-key stage) and “HNM” (has not met the standard) trigger the need to enter a P-scale.

P scales are not required for Pre-Key stage results. P Scales are only required for HNM and BLW results.

BLW/HNM trigger the need for a P-scale. On the p-scale sheet (shown below) there is the option of either entering an overall p-scale for the subject or entering the different components. For example you can either enter the following in the English P-Scale box: P1i, P1ii, P2i, P2ii, P3i or P3ii. Or you can give P-scales for the separate components of English, which are: Reading, Writing, Speaking and listening and the only valid entry for these is P4.
