Advice on starting the Timetable early.

Starting Next Year’s – Starting Next Year’s Curriculum Early Guide Applicable to 2015 onwards

Some schools start next year’s curriculum early.

– using the same timetable

– using a new timetable

Some schools see this as an introduction to next year’s courses and therefore do not record the students as actually starting these courses during the summer term. Some schools record students as starting the courses at this time.

Using the same timetable

This means that students remain in classes linked to AS courses and the end date shows as the end of term. If they are getting an introduction to A2 courses during this time, there is no need to record any A2 course memberships for them. If they are starting their A2 courses, then the easiest option is to add them to the members panel in course manager using the correct dates for the membership and protecting these memberships against deletion if Update Course Memberships is run. If their membership end dates on the classes match the class end dates, and their membership start dates for next year match the class start dates, the learning aims record will show as starting in June/July.

End dates and Planned End dates for these classes will behave as follows when update course memberships is run:

Dates will remain unchanged if the same timetable is used as above.

Using a new timetable

New A2 level classes in Nova should automatically link to A2 courses when exported to SQL. Updating Course memberships will put the students into A2 courses for this period.

End dates and Planned End dates for these classes will behave as follows when update course memberships is run:

End date and Planned End date will be changed if an export from Nova has been done which terminates the old classes – for a start date in the future

End date and Planned End date will be changed if student memberships of the classes have been terminated for a future date

If the changes above are done for a date in the past, course memberships will not be terminated correctly. (i.e. only the End date will change and the system will expect a withdrawn or transferred status)
