iTap / Hosted Applications Connector using Apple Mac / iPad / iPhone – Oxford Schools


Whilst the Itap application covered below will still work Microsoft has now released free RDP Clients for OSX and iOS which Scomis now support for connecing to our services, please see for more information.



For Oxford, Somerset or Portsmouth schools wanting to connect to their hosted SIMS within the school using an Apple Mac or iPhone / iPad, the standard hosted SIMS connector will not work.

The school IT manager will need to be advised to purchase the following app from their Apple  App Store / iTunes which is a RDP client which supports TS gateway.

The standard Microsoft RDP client doesn’t support TS gateway.

To connect to SIMS using a Mac, you will need to launch iTap and enter the following details

Select New

In the Edit Bookmark box, enter the details below and replace username and password with the customers hosted SIMS login.

Then click the green + sign next to Gateway to open the Preferences box in order to add Gateway configuration

In the Preferences box, enter the below details. Again, replace the username and password with the customers hosted SIMS credentials.

Close the above Preferences box.  Back in the Edit Bookmark box, change Gateway to point to

Close the Edit Bookmark box.

Now, back in the iTap mobile RDP box, you will see the Hosted SIMS connection listed. Click on this connection and then click the Start button. This should now launch a remote desktop screen and take you into your hosted SIMS data.
