Bromcom – Data Boundary Information

Data Boundaries are useful during End of Year – but can sometimes cause confusion.

A Data Boundary is created in Config > Setup > Data Boundaries. You set a start and end date for the boundary as well as the roles this is available for.

The user can select which data boundary they are in via the Profile menu > My Account > General panel.

Being in a data boundary makes the system think you are within that date range. Typical examples include:

Being in the next academic year to set scheduled tasks where you cannot select a start date will mean the current scheduled will be untouched. The schedule you are setting will only start at the start of the data boundary you are in. Detention schedules is the best example.

Setting a year based data item will ensure the correct year is selected. Assigning a UPN will use the current year you are in. If you wish to assign a UPN early then ensure you are in the data boundary that start in the academic year they start.

Being in the next academic year data boundary enables you to check various data elements without having to constantly change the active date.

However, being in a future boundary will not show you the data that has end dates before the boundary starts. When changing memberships it is better to remain in Nucleus.

Also – ensuring teachers are in a boundary excluding next academic year they will not see the work you are preparing for the next year. Don’t forget to extend their boundary before the first day of the new year though.
