How to check if the Windows Firewall is disabled

Windows Firewall may need to be disabled on school Admin computers to allow for remote access or for transferring files between computers i.e. where the main Admin computer has shared drives.

  1. Open Control Panel (Windows 10 type Control Panel in the Search Box and open – Windows 7 Click the Start button and Select Control Panel)
  2. Select ‘View by Large Icons’ & double-click on the Windows Firewall icon
  3. Select Turn Windows Firewall On or Off.
  4. Switch the firewall off or on as applicable

Please note that laptops that are connected to any networks (including the internet) outside of school should have their firewalls switched on for security.
