Validate Memberships & Database Diagnostics
Validate Memberships and Database Diagnostics are key housekeeping routines that perform a collection of checks and fixes which are applied to the SIMS database when they are run. These processes ensure that all group memberships are brought into line with Academic Year boundaries. These routines can be run by SIMS users with the SIMS System Manager permission.
Validate Memberships
Tools > Validate Memberships
Validate Memberships will check any changes that have been made to group memberships or other data that affects the group membership rules within SIMS, and automatically applies corrections where it encounters an issue. Validate Memberships should be run monthly as a minimum, although if your SIMS is Hosted by Scomis this is automatically run for you on a weekly basis. For more information on Validate Memberships please see this guide: Validating Memberships using DBDiagnose
Database Diagnostics
Tools > System Diagnostics > Database Diagnostics
Similar to Validate Memberships, Database Diagnostics will check every record in SIMS against its specific validation checks. Once it has completed, it will list all of its checks (under Tools > System Diagnostics > Database Diagnostics) and provide any warnings. These warnings are then either fixed automatically or will need to be resolved manually in SIMS by the user.
Please note: Both of these routines may take some time to complete in SIMS.net. Therefore, we recommend that these are run during a quiet time (i.e. out of school hours) to prevent impact to SIMS users.
