Retired – SIMS Terminal Server – How Do I Fix Printouts With Incorrectly Printed Fonts or Inconsistent Spacing?

This article is only relevant to Windows 2008 Terminal Server schools with Windows XP workstations.

If the fonts appear correct on screen, but wrong on the printed page or the spacing of text is not correct, check the following:

  • Make sure the MSI is at version 3.2.6 or later (this is displayed on the top bar of the SIMS Terminal Server connection program)
  • Make sure that .net 3 framework SP2 or later is installed
  • Make sure the workstation has Windows XP SP3 installed (this article is not relevant to Vista and Windows 7)

If the problem still exists with all the above in place, then a Microsoft hotfix is available.  This can be installed as follows on the workstation that has the issue:

  • Make sure the user is logged off from the Terminal Server
  • E-mail or copy this link via VNC and click on it http://simsts.scomis.org/EasyPrintXPFix/NDP30SP2-KB946411-x86.zip
  • Click on Open
  • You should see a file called NDP30SP2-KB946411-x86.exe
  • Double click this and click on Run
  • Click on Next
  • Tick the “I have read and accept the license terms” which is just confirming that it’s a valid copy of Windows XP
  • Click on Next
  • Once the installation is complete, click on Finish
  • Get the user to log back on to the Terminal Server and see if the issue has been resolved.

Please e-mail Ben Regis each time this hotfix is required with the call reference.  If it is a regular problem, then it may be included in the MSI.  More details on the issue here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB946411.
