Connect.ini and FMSConnect.ini formats

Both FMS and SIMS use connect.ini files to help the applications find the databases.  This F.A.Q. entry shows what a common connect.ini and FMSConnect.ini file looks like

CONNECT.INI – usually found in the shared SIMS folder – e.g. G:\SIMS

[SIMSConnection]
Servername=<servername>\SIMS2008
Database=SIMS

The connect.ini file also supports redirecting to a central file

[SIMSConnection]
Redirect=G:\SIMS

FMSConnect.ini – usually found in the shared SIMS Folder – e.g. G:\SIMS

[FMSConnection]
Server=<servername>\SIMS2008
Database=FMS

Whilst redirection works in the the FMSConnect.ini it is not supported by Capita and will give strange behaviour if a user enters the wrong password.

[FMSConnection]
Redirect=G:\SIMS
