How to resolve VSS or COM errors with Remote Backup
When checking the remote backup logs, you might come across the following errors –
Error: 19:05:18 An error occurred preparing VSS for backup: Unknown VSS or COM error
Error: 19:05:18 An error occurred trying to initialize VSS: Unknown VSS or COM error
Error: 19:05:29 Unable to recover from exception in backup process
The following processes appear to fix this problem –
Remotely log on to the machine with the error.
Increase the virtual memory allocation to the Backup Service in the console – see http://faq.scomis.org/kb3351/
Reconnect the client http://faq.scomis.org/kb4601/
Run a manual backup or await scheduled backup and check to see if the backup now completes successfully. If still an issue, assign call to the Server and Network Team.
