Windows Workstation Server – Checking the Public and Whole shares

The Scomis workstation server shares files across the network using a standard share arrangement.

Servers will typically have a WHOLE and PUBLIC folder available for network users to connect to.  These are accessed by remote computers using a UNC path such as \\<servername>\PUBLIC

The easiest method to check which folders are shared from the computer is to use Computer Manager.

  • Click Start
  • Right Click “Computer”, Choose Manage (may be prompted for UAC)
  • Expand “Shared Folders”
  • Click on Shares
  • Look for WHOLE or PUBLIC shares
