Encryption – Who can ask for a user recovery

Who in a school can ask for a user recovery, i.e password reset…

Ideally the user themselves should ring the Service Desk if they have problems with logging onto their laptop.

Where this is not possible and for example a school technician calls on their behalf the user should not divulge their security responses to the technician.

In this situation the Scomis Service Desk will call the technician back on the schools main telephone number (this validates you to us an authorised person).

We can then complete a user recovery which will reset the users password back to the default 12345.  The user should then change their password to something unique which only they know.  As part of this process we reset the local-recovery for the user enabling them to reset their questions.

Please remember:

  • Users of the Scomis Encryption Service should not divulge their password to anyone else
  • Users of the Scomis Encryption Service should not divulge their security question responses to anyone other than the Scomis Service Desk
