Scomis Remote Backup Service – connectivity requirements from 11th December 2017

As part of an upgrade to the Scomis Remote Backup Service we will be migrating customers’ backups from our Devon based datacentres to Redstor’s UK based datacentres.

For information Attix is now owned by Redstor.

Like our existing service your backups will be stored in ISO27001 accredited UK datacentres; your backups will be securely transmitted while in transit over the Internet to the storage platform; and your stored backups will remain encrypted on the storage platform to prevent any unauthorised access.

As part of the migration work we will need to ensure that our customers are able to connect to the new storage platforms as these servers will have different IP addresses on the Internet.

Please see the firewall changes that need to be implemented below (choose from (a) or (b) below):

 (a)   If your Internet Service Provider is SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning) and your school is in Devon local authority –

There is no need to contact your ISP. But if you use local firewall and filtering software, please ensure exceptions are put in place for the following –

Traffic from your backup client(s) to 91.224.152.0/24 on port 443

Traffic from your backup client(s) to 91.224.153.0/24 on port 443

Access from 91.224.152.0/24 to your backup client on port 9091 for remote management*

Access from 91.224.153.0/24 to your backup client on port 9091 for remote management*

(b)   For all other establishments (if your Internet Service Provider is SWGfL but not in Devon local authority, or you use an alternative Internet Service Provider regardless of what local authority you are in) –

(i)               Please contact your Internet Service Provider and request that they add the following rules –

Traffic from your backup client(s) to 91.224.152.0/24 on port 443

Traffic from your backup client(s) to 91.224.153.0/24 on port 443

Access is allowed from 91.224.152.0/24 to your backup client on port 9091 for remote management*

Access is allowed from 91.224.153.0/24 to your backup client on port 9091 for remote management*

(ii)              If you use local firewall and filtering software, please ensure exceptions are put in place for the following –

*Remote management allows Scomis to see log files, amend configuration, and troubleshoot remotely from our Remote Backup console which will help save time if there are any backup errors. Alternatively, we would need to contact the school and request a remote session to view log files or carry out troubleshooting – potentially this results in longer resolution times.

If you have any specific queries regarding these changes please contact the Scomis Service Desk on 01392 385300.
